Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo, Greetings,

It’s hard to believe that there are only five weeks to go for the 2017 school year!  Teachers are busy assessing students, writing school reports, and putting classes together for 2018.  Students have named three friends who they would like to be with next year, knowing that they are guaranteed one of the three friends.  One of the skills that our changing workforce requires is the ability to work collaboratively with a range of people.  We need to prepare students for this, by mixing them up and teaching them to work with a range of students.   Teachers know the students well, and will use their professional judgement to balance the classes.  If there is a medical or educational need that you would like to flag up which would impact on the placement of your child, please contact either Carole (carole@bbps.school.nz) or Moira (m.rowlands@bbps.school.nz) to let them know.   My thanks to Carole and Moira who have stepped up for the last few weeks, as I have hurt a disc in my back and unable to be onsite.

Welcome to our new student, Charlotte Steele, who has started with us this since our last newsletter.

Students are also getting that end of year feeling, and we are working hard to keep up high standards of uniform and behaviour.  We ask that you support us with this by sending students to school in the correct uniform, and having discussions about the importance of keeping a high standard of behaviour right up to the last day.  Through school and team assemblies, and in the classrooms we keep referring back to our four important school values of respect – manaakitanga, responsibility – tiaki, relationships – whanaungatanga and resilience – manawaroa, which we are working hard to embed.

There is much in the media at the moment with our new government about changes to education, such as scrapping  National Standards.  At the moment the government will be working things changes, such as what to replace National Standards with, therefore nothing has been mandated.  As changes are mandated, I will keep you updated on what that means for BBPS.

Middle Team Concert

The Middle Team’s Concert is getting closer and the children are enjoying the final preparations.

Just a final few reminders:

  • There will be a Matinee performance on Tuesday 21 November from 11 – 12.30pm.
  • The concert runs over two nights (Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 November) and the children need to be at both performances as they are an important part of the group. The children are to be at school in their classrooms by 5:30 each night.
  • If you haven’t already done so, please send any costume requirements to school as soon as possible.
  • Each family has been allocated two tickets per night, a total of four tickets per family overall. Unfortunately our hall can only fit two from each family per night. If there are any spare tickets, these will be available from the office on the day of the performance.
  • The matinee concert on Tuesday is free. Please make sure you come early to get a seat.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

Enjoy these pieces of writing that some of the students have written. We hope that they have done a great job at persuading you.

Student Council News

The Student Council are collecting ALL resources like canned foods, teaching stationery for a Tongan School for the Disabled. Please leave any donations at the front office. BBP likes to support and help others and this is an example of being a Sustainable Community.

Enviro News

TFS/ Enviro actions happen EVERY lunchtime and the teachers are enjoying lots of new students helping the older students to manage the gardens and maintain the vegetable area of the school.

Our 72 Leafcutter bees need 21 days of 21 degrees celsius until they begin to hatch. Therefore there has not been much movement or hatching in the orchard area.

The Nectarine trees are looking amazing – a big thanks to Kelvin Davies ( Hamish and Charlie Taylor’s Grandad) for his regular pruning and monitoring of our fabulous orchards.

        Travel Wise

On the 8th of November the Travel Wise Leaders, Mrs Sanileva and Mrs Walton ventured into Auckland City for a Travel Wise Celebration.  We had a fantastic day at ‘The Cloud’.  We received lots of treats and prizes like free drink bottles and ice creams!

At the end of the day, there was an award ceremony, where our school won a Gold Medal Award! Well done to all of the children that have made an effort to be Travel Wise, by either walking, scooting or parking/walking to or from school.

There will be more photos put on the website from our trip, at a later date.
