The first Olympic Games was held in Olympia back 776 BC. only 12 places inside Greece. The sports included were 3 different types of running, wrestling, boxing and pentathlon. The games were designed keep men fit for the intensity of the war and to honour the Zeus the Greek god. Big sun hats were banned because they blocked the spectators’ view. Married women were banned from the ancient Olympics. Only women with horses and unmarried women were allowed to watch the ancient Olympics. Men did races without clothes. There were no medals like bronze, silver or gold. The winner got a wreath of olives and could have a statue built at Olympus in their honour as a prize.
