On Thursday we had a trip to MOTAT to study and learn about inventions. First Abby told us where the places were, then we went to the 1900s school. The teacher used a chalkboard and the children had wooden seats and wooden desks, which had holes for the ink pots. The rules were very strict and the girls had to sit with their knees together. The houses that they used to have for four people, is the size we now have for one person. The oldest firetruck was built in 1869. When the firefighters went into the fire their helmets were made out of cotton and somebody had to pump air into the helmet. The ladder that the firefighters used was nine stories high and three horses pulled the ladder.

Next we went to the shops. One shop was empty except for one chair. The next shop was a lighting shop with various types of lights. The oldest tram was built in 1907. Some trams took 74 people to build and some trams lasted for 50 years. Some trams are 101 years old.

After that our whole class went into a big room and sat on the ground. Abby, our instructor, showed us some games. The game was to match inventions like the irons we have now and the irons we used to have and why we thought that. The next table was inventions that did not work. The third table had two typewriters. On the typewriters we had to write three reasons why the typewriter is different from the computer. The fourth table had four pens with ink and we had to write our name on a small piece of paper. The next table had names of a whole lot of inventions like the toilet paper roll on head, so when you sneeze you can pull toilet paper down. The sixth table had lots of types of cameras throughout history. It had about twenty different cameras. The cameras looked completely different. So did the last table of phones.
