Lightning’s a very unique type of electricity,  There are many different types you need to be careful around.

Inside a thundercloud little bits of ice bump into each other to create two different charges called positive and negative.  The positive builds up in the top of the cloud and the negative in the bottom of the cloud. When the two meet they form a positive charge that creates lightning.

Fork lightning is a type of lightning that branches out like a tree.  Sheet lightning is where there’s a bright flash inside a cloud.   Bead lightning is where the lightning has a line and there are heaps of dots like beads. Ribbon lightning is a thick line, and anvil crawler lightning is where the lightning branches out. It is the most common type.

If you come across a lightning storm and you’re in a field with no shelter quickly lie down flat but keep away from water. If there is shelter go inside but do not touch any metal.
Lake Maracaibo is an area where lightning storms target the area almost every night.  The locals hope lots of tourists will come to see the lightning show. Nearly every night there is a storm. Homes get destroyed.
I think lightning is cool but I know to be careful around it.
