Year 6 Camp 2017

Dear Parents/Caregivers of Year 5 students

We are excited to advise you that we have managed to secure a booking for Lakewood Lodge Camp next year, which is where we have had successful camps for the past two years.

Camp dates: Tuesday 4 April to Friday 7 April 2017.

There will be a camp meeting for all parents of current Year 5 children (Year 6 for 2017) at 7.00 p.m. in the school hall on Thursday 4 August, following our e-learning parent meeting.

The camp will be at Lakewood Lodge, which is near Huntly. It has full safety certification – Outdoors Mark – with all activities taken by trained instructors, ensuring safety is paramount. At Lakewood Lodge there are also caterers. It is an extremely professional set up and affords some of the best camp and outdoor activities available to primary school-aged children. Please check it out on or view the 2016 Year 6 camp presentation.

The camp is an adventure camp, with children experiencing challenging activities, interacting with animals and best of all having a lot of fun! Highlights of the camp include horse-riding, kayaking, climbing wall, low ropes course, archery, water slide, pet farm animals, Burma trail, campfire, volleyball, tug of war, mud run, spotlight and flying fox. There is also a survival adventure camp, where children sleep in tents for one night.

Our school has been going to Year 6 camp for many years and children find it life-changing and character-building – it is truly a memorable experience.

The cost for camp in 2017 will be $340 per student. This covers bus, accommodation, food and activities as well as the professional instruction. Paying by instalments is also an option.

At this stage we are looking for a commitment from parents that their children will attend the camp, as the camp is only viable if most people are prepared to send their children. We need this commitment by the end of Term 3 (Friday 23 September) with payment for the camp forwarded by the end of Term 4 (Friday 16 December 2016).

Please go onto our school website to confirm your commitment to sending your child to camp.  Camp Permission Form

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to Carole Crompton, Jillian Redpath or one of the Year 6 teachers.

Please go onto our school website Wrap It Up to pay for the camp. This will be refunded to you in the unlikely event that the camp doesn’t go ahead.

Thank you so much for your continued interest, enthusiasm and support.

Parent Helpers

Due to our camp location the instructors do not leave the site, therefore we only require a small number of parent helpers for our Year 6 camp at Lakewood Lodge. Unfortunately this means we may be in the difficult position of having to turn down parents.

Parents will be asked to travel by bus to and from the camp or carpool (as parking is limited), and will not be required to pay anything, but will be expected to offer their skills to make this camp an amazing experience for all of the children who attend.

If you would like to be considered as a parent helper for our Year 6 camp from Tuesday 4 – Friday 7 April 2017, would you please complete the Parent Helper Form by the end of Term 3 (Friday 23 September).

Following this we will then be able to make an informed selection to best ensure all areas of the camp experience are covered. We will let you know before the end of the year whether we need your help or not, so you have time to arrange leave if necessary.

Thank you.
