Ko te mutunga oranga, he timatatanga kaha!
Winning starts with beginning!

Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo, Greetings,

Welcome to our new students that have started with us recently:  Madi Arellano, Olivia Gaunt, Cassidy Van Rooyen and Rakina Oduol.   We also welcome four student teachers from AUT: Cassandra Shoemark joining room 19, Youn Ji Heo joining room 1, Nicholas Mailau joining room 6 and Sarah Rodwell joining room 5.

Camp

Welcome back to our year six campers – the school was very quiet without you!  With year six away, we realise and appreciate what a range of responsibilities they undertake around the school.  Camp Adair were full of compliments for the way our students co-operated and encouraged each other throughout the team activities, and they also commented on our fantastic manners.  Thank you to the teachers and parents who did such a good job of looking after our students at camp.   BBPS’s enthusiasm did make the difference!

Community Survey

Thank you to the families who have taken time to complete the community survey.  Your feedback is very valuable.  As part of our community consultation, I would like to offer some drop-in sessions. The first one will be on Tuesday the 22nd of May at 9am, followed by a later session on Thursday the 24th of May from 6:30 – 7pm. Pop along, pour a coffee and ask a question, or share an idea.  I will feedback the results from the survey in the next newsletter.

Chinese Parent Meeting

A Chinese Parent Meeting will be hosted in the staffroom on the 21st of June from 6:30 – 7pm.  Connie Cheng is kindly going to interpret.  If you have questions, ideas or feedback, please join us.

Digital Technology Evening

On the 7th of June at 7pm, we are hosting an evening presented by David Kinane, to introduce parents to the digital technology curriculum.  Please email the office (office@bbps.school.nz) if you are able attend, so we can organise the best space to hold the meeting.

Designing and developing digital outcomes involves learning how to design and produce quality, fit-for-purpose digital solutions.  To prepare for the implementation of the digital curriculum, we have set up a team of teachers who are researching and developing a digital strategy for BBPS; one that will have strong foundations in reading, writing and maths, and teaches the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to be successful now and in the future.  Our team are being guided by digital expert David Kinane.  Throughout the process we will keep you informed, and will share our strategy once developed for your feedback and comments.  In the meantime, if you would like to view the digital curriculum click on this link

Bullying-Free New Zealand Week

This week is Bulling-Free New Zealand week.  Classes will be working on a range of activities over the week, and on Friday students are invited to wear pink or red mufti to recognise the significance of the week.

PTA News

Unfortunately our new PTA Chair’s situation has changed, and she is no longer able to take up the position.  Therefore, we are back on the hunt for a new PTA Chair.  This could be a Co-Chair position, if there are two people who would like to work together.  If you are interested please call in and have a chat, or email k.slater-brown@bbps.school.nz.

Chocolates will be on sale again Friday after school, by the rotunda.  $2 per bar, or three bars for $5.

Enviro News

The gardens are buzzing with new winter vegetables which are established and healthy. We welcome Mrs Everard to our Enviro team and her knowledge and expertise in helping little hands care and manage gardens has all ready made an impact.

Our lemon and mandarin trees have provided the students and staff with 4 bucket loads of stunning and fresh produce. We are excited as the Trees For Survival Planting day is this Friday and the months of care and preparation by Mrs Howie and her TFS team have paid off with 20+ crates of native trees loaded this week on to the farmer’s horse float.

The school grounds are looking happy and healthy as we all take care to pick up rubbish and use the worm bins regularly. We are excited that the boat is being painted and we shall soon be painting the name of our lovely play area. Well done, Student Council and BBP!

Kind regards

Kelly Slater-Brown
