Relationships – Whanaungatanga, Resilience – Manawaroa, Respect – Manaakitanga, Responsibility – Tiaki

Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo, Hallo, Greetings,

Welcome to our new students and their families that have recently joined us:  Owen Wang, James Inglis, Owen Shen, Elizke Herrwyn, James Inglis, Agnes Han & Suray Lopez Varela.

Thank you to all of those families who attended our family picnic night.  It was an excellent turn out – with the sausage sizzle selling out! A great night was had by all.   We are very grateful to all of our helpers, we couldn’t have done it without you.

No Dogs At School

We have had our signs amended to say no dogs on the school grounds at any time.  Sadly we had to change the signs, as we are dealing with dog poo that has not being picked up by owners on a daily basis.  Thanks for your support with this.

Travel Wise

This year the Travel Wise team is being run by Cherry Wong and Liz Keel.   Over the year the team will educate students about getting to school safely, scooter & bike safety and other initiatives.  One area that we would love your support with, is ensuring that you don’t park on yellow lines so that our road patrol monitors have a clear view of the road.  The other request is that when you are crossing the road, please use the crossing.

White Card Needed

Does anyone have a contact for large sheets of white card?  If so, please can you contact the school office – thank you!

 School Council Request

The BBPS Student Council are collecting blankets and towels to make beds for animals who are currently waiting for homes at the SPCA.  If you have any old blankets or towels that you would like to donate, please send them to school and give them to your class councillors or drop them into the Bilingual Learners’ Room (next to the hall).  The SPCA would like donated blankets and towels to be cut into 40cm x 40cm squares. It would be great if you are able to do this at home but, if not, they are still happy to take uncut items.

Thank you from the Student Councillors.

Green Day

Looking after our beautiful environment is such an important part of our school culture. Staff and students had an amazing Green day on Friday, connecting with and improving our school environment. Check out our  new mud kitchen, kindly built by Mr Chris Snell – all sorts of organic potions are going to made in there! Old furniture was being upcycled. Plants planted. Paper was recycled. Faces made in trees.  Older and younger students worked and learnt together. A great day was had by all.

Sports

Girls Cricket

A big thank you to all our parents that supported the Girls Cricket Tournament held on 26 March.  The team won their first three  games beating Maraetai, Howick & Wakaaranga Primary Schools.  The girls had a lovely day and displayed all of the BBPS Values.  A special thank you to Connie Cheng for being our Coach for the day!

Thank you

A big thank to everyone that donated to our “Colour Your Day” Christchurch appeal.  We raised a total of $563.70.  Our thoughts go out to those families who have been affected.

Room 19 Writing

The sailing was awesome enough,

it had helpers, boats, sails and a good current going to the left.

My partner and I did what we were taught to do:

Capsized a lot, pulled the rope , turned the rudder,

dodged the sail and checked the wind.

Smiling all the time!

By Laban and Stephen

The cricket day was as usual enough; it had stumps, bails, a

field, a pitch, and even other teams.

My teammates, coach and I did what a proper team does-we tried our best, won our

first game, got a few wickets, lost our next, lost our last game, bowled and batted.

Next generation Blackcaps.

By Noah and Mehtab

The softball field day was usual enough,

it had bats, gloves, helmets, and a sky over it,

And even a small red siren I never heard.

My team, my coach and I, did what softball players do-

smacked the yellow ball, ran to bases, cheered the focused batter,

played like crazy, threw the yellow ball with a strong touch,

ate dry sandwiches, carrots or cookies.

Having a fun time

Sea Week

Have you seen the Artwork in the new corridors behind rooms 1, 2, 3 & 4 at school?

This is the beautiful Artwork by room 6 (year two’s) Mrs. Keels class.

What beautiful sea creatures celebrated during Sea Week – well done room 6!

Here is some writing about Sea Week:

‘The Underwater World’

Facts – Most of the World is covered in water.  Seaweed grows in the sea.

Animals and plants live in the water.

Manatees – Manatees are related to elephants.  Manatees live in the water.

Deadly Creatures – Deadly creatures can kill you.  Some sea snakes live in the coral.

By Nathan He – Age 6 (Room 6)

‘The Underwater World’

Manatees – Manatees have two flippers.  Manatees can be called ‘Sea Cows’.

Deadly Creatures – Deadly creatures can be found in coral.  Sea snakes are poisonous.

Pets

Room 9, Mrs. Madgwick’s year 1 students are enjoying sharing some of

their pets.  So far we’ve had Amy’s guinea pigs and Mrs. Madgwicks rabbit.

Whose are we going to say “hi” to next?…..

‘Bonnie the Bunny’

‘Mrs. Madgwick brought in Bonnie the rabbit.

She was so fluffy and cute.

Do you know that she is so messy?

Once she escaped into the wild!

An interesting fact is…….that carrots are very sweet for the rabbit and can only be given as a treat.  But….the carrots are so healthy for us!’

By Mei-en Downs – Age 5 (Room 9)

Toys and personal items from home

If you could please ensure children keep their toys safely at home (unless they’re sharing as part of their news – the oral language program).

We’re unfortunately getting too many children bringing in special toys and these can

easily get lost.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards

Kelly Slater-Brown
