Our School

Bucklands Beach Primary School

The school is in an idyllic location surrounded by the Tamaki River and Hauraki Gulf,  within walking distance of our local beaches.

The school opened in 1955 as a full primary school (years 1-8), commencing with 169 students and one block of classrooms. There were few roads and permanent houses in Bucklands Beach and many holiday baches.  This is in stark contrast to the housing subdivisions, resulting in the homes that many of our students live in today.  The community has strong links to Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, where students are introduced to sailing, caring for our local environment and safety on the water. We are proud of many of our ex-students who have gone on to pursue careers and sporting goals in water-related activities.

Today, BBP is a public primary school for students up to Year 6, the majority of whom attend Bucklands Beach Intermediate and Macleans College. We are also part of the Te Ara Bucklands Beach Kāhui Ako, a group of local schools working together on common goals for students following our pathways.

We are a medium-sized primary school reflecting our diverse community, which we proudly draw on for learning.  The school attracts and retains high-calibre staff.  BBP received an outstanding Education Review Office Report. We are a well-resourced school and are lucky to have skilled specialist teachers, many extracurricular activities, and a well-utilised swimming pool.

As a school, we are committed to our vision. We are innovative, responding with agility as new research to inform our practice  Our strategic plan is developed in consultation with our community in conjunction with the Government priorities.  The environment is a strong focus in our teaching and learning programme. Our curriculum is taught through authentic learning experiences.  We also have a focus on teaching essential soft skills and well-being tools, to prepare our students for their future. We value strong relationships between home and school and are well supported by our community.

Enviro

As a Silver Enviro School we promote a genuine commitment to sustainability

Being an enviro school provides a context for learning that is real, relevant, and teaches students ways they can be responsible for the environment.  It also provides the opportunity for students and the community to work together to create a sustainable school, with the hope that good practises will continue at home and beyond.

Our guiding principles are:

  • Sustainable communities
  • Empowered students
  • Respect for diversity of people and cultures
  • Learning for sustainability
  • Māori perspectives

Vision & Values

After wide consultation, our values were chosen and established. We are guided in our day-to-day work by the BBP vision and values. Our values are taught in the same way that we teach other curriculum areas. We expect our values to be modelled in daily interactions and communication by all adults and students in our school community.

We value what each child and adult brings to school and foster an inclusive environment where diversity and culture are understood and celebrated.

A community of  agile and collaborative learners. Proud of who we are. Empowered to make a difference.
