Welcome

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all those students and their families who have joined the Middle School through last term or at the beginning of this term.

PE

This term the students will participate in PE sessions that will cover basic athletics skills.  Students will need to bring their sports uniform to school on Tuesday and Thursday. The skills taught will be long jump, high jump, throwing and sprinting. In week three, Thursday 1 November, the Middle and Senior school students will take part in an athletics day. All students who are 8 years old or older will compete in the field events as this is part of selecting the Interschool Athletics team. All of the students will compete in running races. The students who are younger than 8 years old will take part in tabloid games with Mrs Howie. You are welcome to come along and cheer on your athletes.

Class Readers

Please would you check at home for any of the school’s class readers. If you have any books at home, under the bed or down the back of the couch, please return them.

Litter Free Lunches

The Enviro Council worked hard last term to encourage the school to bring litter free or “Nude Food” lunchboxes to school. We are working towards being a rubbish free school and we encourage the children to continue to try and bring food in reusable or recyclable containers.

Room 12 is responsible for the worm farm.  We can recycle fruit and food scraps by feeding the scraps to the worms in the worm farm, or putting them in the compost bins. The children are asked to take their other lunch box waste home each day.

Inquiry Focus

This term we will be conducting an inquiry unit called “Structures and Function”. This inquiry unit will focus on ways in which the properties of construction materials influence the design of buildings and structures such as bridges, and the properties of different building materials used. The classes will use materials and shapes to make different stable, weight bearing structures.

Each class will be making bridges and structures, so if there is anything from home that would be useful the students are welcome to bring it to school to help them with their structures. Once plans have been drawn up, the children will know what materials they will need.

Art Exhibition

The classes have been creating beautiful pieces of art over the past term. On Tuesday 6 November from 3.15 – 5.00pm each class will exhibit their art for you to enjoy. You are welcome to visit your child’s class and and any other that entices you in with their amazing art works.

Uniform

During term 4, all students are required to wear a hat when playing outside. Lost property is now kept in boxes in the room next to the hall. Please NAME everything that your child owns.

Students are also reminded that they are expected to wear the correct uniform for sport. They should be wearing blue shorts with their sports shirt, and suitable footwear.

Last term we had a few instances of toys or other personal items being brought to school, and in some cases the items becoming broken or lost. Please help us by reminding your child that unless it is part of class learning, toys are not to be brought to school. This includes soft toys, collectable figurines and swap cards.

Sun Sense

Students are asked to be mindful of health and hygiene during the summer months. As the days are getting hotter and we will be outside on most days taking part in PE and being able to play outside during breaks, please remind your child about wearing their hat and using sunscreen.
