BBP Senior School Trip to Mangere Mountain
Dear Parents
This term we have been focusing on a unit of Inquiry based on the central idea “The earth’s surface exhibits constant change”. As a special conclusion to this unit we would like to visit Mangere Mountain Education Centre Te Pane O Mataoho.
For 20,000 years, Mangere Mountain has been part of the landscape. For 700 years it has been home to a living community. With its lava dome, crater and archaeological features, Mangere Mountain offers us an unforgettable encounter with the past and an opportunity to learn both about Auckland’s volcanic landscape and our Māori history.
This Education Centre has been rated as one of the best museums in Auckland and is often fully booked. We have been fortunate to secure bookings for Week 2 of Term 3 at a specially reduced rate. Our school trip will include a guided walk over the Mangere Mountain followed by two hands-on educational workshops at the Visitor Centre. The workshops range from Kite Making, Basic Weaving, Medicinal Gardens.
The dates for this trip will be:
Rooms 3 and 4 31st July
Rooms 1 and 2 1st August
Rooms 18 and 19 3rd August
The timetable will be as follows:
Leave school at 9:00 a.m.
Morning tea/toilet 9.45 a.m.
Programme begins 10.00 a.m.
Leave Mangere Mountain 2.00 p.m.
Arrive at BBPS at approx 2.45 p.m.
The cost per pupil will be $10.00 for the programme and $10.00 for the return bus. This makes a total of $20.00 per child. (Please note this rate has been specially reduced for our students.)
