Beach Cleanup

17 February 2017

Dear Parents

As part of our Inquiry Topic we have been learning about being a conscientious member of our community. Next Friday 24th February, all classes will be taking part in a beach clean up to demonstrate how we can be caring, responsible community members.

The junior school classes will leave school and walk to Eastern Beach at 9:30am.  They will meet on the beach at the tennis club end where they will sit and have morning tea. They will then put on gloves and work in groups to pick up rubbish from the end of the beach to the dairy. At 11:00 am (approx.) they will take part in a sandcastle competition and then walk back to school in time for lunch.

The middle school classes will leave school at 10:00am and walk down to their focus area, which is from the dairy to the playground.

The senior classes will leave school at 11:00am and walk down to the beach and then to the far end, which is their focus area.

The children will need

  • Sunscreen applied before school
  • Hat and suitable footwear
  • Lunch and a drink

The charity Keep New Zealand Beautiful have provided the school with disposable gloves, rubbish bags and hand sanitiser to use before eating and after picking up rubbish.

The children will have a chance to take before and after photos so that they can see the difference their efforts are having on their local environment. They will also be involved in sorting and classifying the rubbish that they have collected when they return to school.

This is a valuable learning experience for our children and we would really appreciate parent help.

We would love you to join us for a fun day. Maybe some of you could help transport lunchboxes and drinks to the park as well – please liaise with your child’s class teacher.

Please follow the link to give permission for your child to attend as well as to offer parent help if you are able to.
