Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo, Greetings,
It’s been all go at school, with sports groups competing in gymnastics, rugby, netball, soccer and cross country, as well as groups performing at the choir festival and the Koanga festival. Across all of these disciplines, the one piece of feedback I keep getting from other schools is how well our students support and look out for each other, and the passion and enthusiasm they bring. What fantastic feedback! Thanks to the many parents who support by transporting, or just coming along and supporting our students.
A special congratulations to Mrs Chilvers and the Cross Country team who trained hard, and managed to retain the Cross Country trophy for another year!

Enviro News
Tread Lightly Caravan success! All students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the caravan and learned so many new things about how to be more sustainable. Everyone made a Pledge which you can view as collective footprints in the library.
Our Trees For Survival Unit has had a makeover and Mrs Howie and Mrs Riach are keen to see lots of students helping us fill bags and plant native seedlings on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes!
Conservation week 2018 – 15th – 23rd September All students and their families are encouraged to focus on Zero Waste. We have had success with trying to have only NUDE FOOD every Friday but the school Enviro Leaders would like to challenge staff and the families at BBP to bring ABSOLUTELY no plastic or wrappers to school this week!
Colgate Products Recycling Competition!!
“Exciting New! BBPS has a chance to win a recycled community garden set in a national school recycling competition! This year there are TWO ways we can win, firstly by bringing in ALL BRANDS of your oral care waste to the big box located in reception for recycling and secondly by following the link below and voting for BBPS every day. One online vote = 1 garden point and the school with the most garden points at the end of the competition wins!
www.terracycle.co.nz/
The competition runs from 1 August to 16 November so let’s get collecting!”
We are already registered so now just need to get collecting which the school community is very good at. The second way to win is by voting online at the above link. We currently have 38 votes with the leading school on over 31,000! The school with the most votes wins recycled gardening equipment. We can also win the gardening equipment from a draw so still in with a chance this way.
Sports News
This year’s gymnastic teams had a successful day at the local Eastern Zone competition. Forty seven students from year 3 to year 6 worked hard to develop their skills on three different apparatus. Training and teamwork showed on the day as we have successfully achieved 17 gymnasts qualifying for the Auckland Championships on Thursday the 13th of September. A special mention to Luke Findlay, a Year 4 boy who achieved first place overall.
Thank you to all parents and teachers who have been involved.

Junior School News
The Tread Lightly Caravan is a mobile exhibition/classroom established by the Urban EcoLiving Charitable Trust to inspire young New Zealanders to live more sustainably.
Using interactive displays, the Caravan shows visitors how everyday choices such as what we buy, how we travel, what we eat, how we use energy in our homes and how we manage waste, can impact the natural environment.
The key message to visitors is, ‘Your choices have environmental consequences’.
Thank you to the parents who volunteered to assist on the classes.

Scooter Training
The Juniors enjoyed their Scooter Training last week with Andy from Auckland Transport. They were trained in emergency stops, weaving in and out of cones, gliding and the very important task of ‘stopping, looking and listening’ when they came to a pedestrian crossing. They all then got off their scooters to ‘walk’ safely across the mock crossing.
Thank you to Andy from Auckland Council & the Year 6 Travel wise Monitors.

Junior School Student Writing – My Dad by Room 7
My Dad is the most strongest Dad in the universe. My Dad is also very noisy, and he tastes weird. He looks like King Kong banging on his chest and he feels hard. He smells like juicy strawberries, I wish I could eat him up! My Dad is also very funny and crazy, he is also very lazy. He’s funny and crazy because he tries hard to impress me and I really appreciate his action. His eyes are as black as space. His beard is shaved like a beardless Dad. To me he’s an ordinary Dad, he is an enchanted awesome Dad! But that’s not all my Dad is also as tall as a sky scraper or taller than Godzilla! This is why he’s not an ordinary Dad. Remember once again he’s an enchanted magical Dad!!!
Caelum
My Dad is the best Dad in the world because he gives me ice pops. My Dad works at a circus. He says who is coming on next. He is as strong as a bear. My Dad is kind because he loves me.
Angie
My Dad is the craziest Dad in the universe because he does multiple things at a time. His hair colour is brown he has gel in his hair that makes his hair hard. His eyes are as blue as the sky. He sounds like Godzilla when he is angry. He smells that I want to take a big bite out of him like a juicy pear. His beard is shaved off but it is still rough. He is as tall as Godzilla.
Leo
My Dad is the craziest Dad in the world because he pulls funny faces at me!. My Dad’s hair is as black as the night sky and also spiky like a hedgehog! My Dad’s eyes are as brown as a chocolate bar! Also he is very funny and he’s very strong like a gorilla. His nose is as sharp like a knife! My Dad smells like a very very juicy orange!!!!! Also, last of all his skin is as white as snow.

Jade’s Te Reo Corner
A little bit of words can change someone’s day even if you don’t know what it means. For example:
Kei te pehea koe i te ra? (Meaning how are you feeling today?)
Kei te hari ahau i te ra. (Meaning I am happy today)
You can also say:
Kei te _____________ ahau i te ra.
riri – anger
pōuri – sad
makariri – cold
mehi – scared
koa – excited
Maybe you should try it out and you might be able to turn someone’s day around!
Ka pai Jade!
Kind regards
Kelly Slater-Brown
