Relationships – Whanauangtanga, Resilience – Manawaroa, Respect – Manaakitanga, Responsibility – Tiaki

Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo, Greetings,

Welcome back to term four.  I trust you have had a lovely break, and enjoyed some family time.  During the holidays our digital technology team attended the U-Learn conference.  On one of the days,  three of our students (Elaina Thomason, Klaas Kamp and Taylor Gray) proudly represented our school, and ran sessions with Mrs Chilvers teaching teachers how to use some robotic technology.  They did a fantastic job.  I’m sure it is no mean feat switching from student to teacher!  PB Technology kindly donated three tablets as part of a goodie bag to recognise our talented students.

As we are heading into the warmer weather (soon hopefully!),  following Labour weekend, all students need to be in summer uniform.  Details of the summer uniform, including the correct footwear, can be found on our website.  This includes the compulsory wearing of hats at break times, and during PE.  Our second sunshade will be installed over the playground in the next few weeks, providing much needed shade over the playground.

Celebrating Success!

What an amazing end we had to term three.  Kate Buchanan won the Interschool Speech Cup, with a beautiful speech on ‘Being Shy’.  What made Kate stand out from the rest of the crowd, was that her speech clearly came from the heart, mixing facts and her own experiences.  The standard of all of the speeches across the school this year has been phenomenal.   I believe that the opportunities our students get in leadership, and public speaking (such as talking in assemblies, student council etc) are helping to develop strong oracy skills.

This was followed by our year 6 boys team taking out the inter school E-Pro8 Technology challenge.  We entered three teams (Y4, 5, & 6) – they all performed very well in the challenge, working collaboratively and problem solving under pressure.

Year 6 E-Pro8 winning team – Jamie Kwong, Alex Rose, Bruce Zhang, Pratik Ranchhod

The girls soccer team have just completed their interschool soccer, topping their pool and coming third overall in the HPPA competition. Throughout the season they demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and finished the season conceding only one goal and scoring a whopping 28 goals!  Lead goal scorer was Jessica. Quick, strong saves and kicks by Caitlin in goal. Super defence line with Sahara, Victoria, Ashleigh, Kate and Aryana. Solid midfield and forwards Kayla, Cerys, Chiara, Jessica, Ruby. Great effort shown by all girls and I am very proud of all of them.   Ms Foulger

Our official ERO report is now online.  We have been given a 4-5 year review cycle.  The 4-5 year return category describes schools who can consistently demonstrate sustained student engagement, progress and achievement.  Over the past 4 years, ERO has conducted over 3,000 primary and secondary school evaluations, 10-15% of which resulted in a 4-5 year return cycle.  We are very proud of our review and wish to acknowledge the hard work of staff, students, the BOT and our community.

Spell-a-thon

What a great effort school-wide with the Spell-a-thon!  Thank you so much for supporting with both the learning of the words, and gaining sponsorship.  Congratulations to room 3 who learned the most spelling words per child, and to room 8 who raised the most money per child.  They all enjoyed their pizza and pyjama day.

Kind regards

Kelly Slater-Brown
