Relationships – Whanauangtanga, Resilience – Manawaroa, Respect – Manaakitanga, Responsibility – Tiaki

Kia Ora, Nǐ hǎo, Greetings,

A very warm welcome to 2019! I hope you have enjoyed some family time and made the most of the glorious weather. The staff have had a busy couple of weeks preparing for the term and are excited to welcome you and your children back to school.

A special welcome to our new children and their families that have joined us:  Nathan Zheng, Yo Yo He, Mia Sun, Kito Sun, Nicola Peters, Ronal Parana Liyanage, Daniel Zheng, Jerry Xu, Olivia Hu, Emily Park, Maximus Mey-Cory, Aisliedh Cilliers, Victoria Tongalea Koronui, Ben Duncan, Bryan Van Beek, Helena Lauati, Hitiksha Rajesh, Myra Chiang, Ivan Yu, Jamie Liang, Jeremy Seekup, George Hart, Alejandra Hogan, Cara De Roock, Freddie Shen, Annie Wang, Lawrence Li, Yanni Li, Charney Coetzee and Claire Michaels.

Over the holidays the long awaited transformation of rooms 1 – 5 and the corridor took place.  Thanks again to John Rist and Rachel Penney who mucked in and moved this project along through hard work and organisation, and to Diana Haxton for giving our work people access.  The results are stunning, and the reactions and faces of the children on day one said it all!  Our school is looking great!

Meet the Teacher

To assist with a smooth start to the year, we have a meet the teacher evening planned on Monday the 25th of February.   The start times have been staggered in case you have more than one child in different teams.  Juniors will run from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m., Middles 7:00 – 7:30 p.m. and Seniors 7:30 – 8:00 p.m. Please meet in your child’s class, where the teacher will share information about how the teaching programme runs in their class to all parents together.  It’s a great opportunity to clarify things like: homework expectations, classroom routines, and to ask questions.

If you need an interpreter on the meet the teacher evening, please email your child’s teacher and let them know.  Conversely, if you are happy to interpret for another parent in the class, please also email your child’s teacher and let them know.

The usual Getting to Know You form will be sent home prior to the meeting, which will be read by your child’s teacher.  We would appreciate it if you can fill it out and return it to the relevant teacher.  If there is something in particular that you would like to discuss about your child with their teacher, please make a separate appointment.

Vision & Linc-Ed

Thanks to those who have contributed ideas already to help form our new school vision.  We will have these ideas up in the staffroom from 6:00 – 7:00 on the meet the teacher evening.  If you would like to drop in and let us know the ideas you support most, we would love to see you.

If you would like to ask questions about our Linc-Ed online reporting system, Moira Rowlands will be in the library from 6:00 – 7:00 on the meet the teacher evening, and can answer your questions.

Year 6 Camp

Our year sixes have had an amazing time at the Ngaruawahia Christian Camp this week.  I had the pleasure of spending a day out there, and really loved watching students push themselves out of their comfort zone, and be really pleased with themselves afterwards!  Great persistence and resilience was shown.

A lot of planning and preparation goes into camp, and I would like to acknowledge Jillian Redpath and her team for making camp happen.  We were also well supported by an amazing bunch of parents, who ran activities and pitched in to make sure the camp ran smoothly.  Thank you so much – we couldn’t provide these opportunities without you!
