Book Week
Bucklands Beach Primary School has an annual book week, that is quickly becoming a book fortnight as it is so popular!
Here are some of the activities that occur:
- Guest speakers, such as book illustrators and authors, take workshops with groups of students as well as whole classes or syndicates.
- Librarians visit from three local libraries and share their latest favourite stories and explain how the public library system works.
- Parents, grandparents and friends of the school read stories in the library at lunchtime.
- Book related colouring competitions in the library.
- Scholastic Books sale - buy a book for yourself and/or donate a book to the school library.
- Storylines Visit. This year it was a performance of "Jungle Bungle" put on by the Storylines Festival 2010 actors. It involved loads of interaction, comedy, singing and incorporated a selection of finalist books from the NZ Post Book Awards.
- The much anticipated Book Character Parade in the hall on the final Friday of the Book Week.
